Jimmy Cocking for Alice Springs Mayor

My name is Jimmy Cocking and I am running for Mayor of Alice Springs. It's not the first time but it might be the last time. I have been a Councillor since 2017 and have worked tirelessly for the community of Alice Springs and Central Australia since arriving in 2008.

Alice Springs is my home. My friends and family are here. I love this place and I believe that despite the challenges, our best years are ahead of us.

I have the potential to be a great Mayor for Alice Springs and will support and grow community leadership along the way.

I have a vision for Alice Springs (Mparntwe). A vision that includes everyone. A safe, welcoming and prosperous town. The capital of the Inland. A regional centre that provides for all of its residents, guests and visitors. A town that is solar powered and leading the world in climate readiness.

I see a future where young and old people are valued and supported to be engaged in the direction of the town. A place that recognises its history and strives towards the best version of itself.

I know how to get things done. The best assets of the community are its people and we need to listen better.

We need to create more opportunities for the community to get involved with the Council.

We need to ensure we have the trust of the community and demonstrate transparency and accountability on all levels.

We need to work with our neighbours and higher levels of government better.

I am running for Mayor because I can also see what's going wrong and I have some ideas about how we can change it.

I'm an independent, I'm not affiliated with any political party. But I'll work with whoever is willing to help achieve this vision. This fundraising campaign is being run to help get my message out there and help me cover the costs of the election which is on August 28.
