First, the bushfires devastated many communities across Australia and choked not only the sky, but also the wildlife that made their homes within the 46 million acres of lost habitat. Following shortly behind was the emergence of Covid-19 and the beginning of what has become a worldwide nightmare - shattering the tourism industry (amongst others) and forcing many into unemployment & welfare.
On May 21st, 2021 I will set off on an immense solo run & hike across Tasmania with the goal to raise at least $10,000 AUD for charitable causes. I hope to help offset these disasters in some small way by doing what I know, at an extreme level to generate support.
Beginning at Devonport, I will weave my way down to Cradle Mountain National Pack, trek through the heart of Tasmania, pass through the city of Hobart, continue across to the Three Capes Track and complete the 600km route at Fortescue Bay - with the whole endeavour to take place across 20 days.
It'll be tough, really tough. But, you can leave the daily grind, blood, sweat and tears to me… I am asking you, my friends and family to help me succeed on the fundraising front.
This isn't just a typical fundraiser though - because I've been incredibly lucky to secure the support of a number of sponsors who have provided some goodies that can be won by anyone in AU & NZ who makes a donation! Pretty neat right?! For every $20 donation made, you will receive one entry into the prize draw and no, there's no limit on how many entries you can have. Prizes will be announced within the next week or so and drawn in June - but let me just say the prizes are pretty awesome!
So for now, please show your support by heading on over to the fundraising page and throwing a few sheckles towards the important causes listed there. You have the choice to donate to any one of the three organisations I've selected (Beyond Blue, NSW Rural Fire Service or WIRES) - or even all three if you so wish. I will be sharing more information on each of those charities in the coming weeks.
This will be my biggest solo challenge yet and I'm looking forward to sharing more about the charities I've chosen to support, the awesome brands who are supporting my trek and of course, more about the trek itself - soon!
I'll be sharing most of the experience on my Jaseinthewild Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jaseinthewildau). So if you’re not already, follow the page or follow my Instagram (@jaseinthewild) to keep up to speed on the preparation, fundraising, prizes and of course, the adventure!
It's going to be tough! Wish me luck!
