In June 2018 our Mum, Christine, was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer. The tumour in her bowel was too large to remove and the cancer had also spread to her lungs. She was told that with chemo treatments to help her fight the disease she could have about two years of life left, give or take, depending how her body handled it.
From day one Mum has been a strong fighter, with such amazing spirit and so much positivity. Since June 2018 she's undergone countless variations of chemotherapy drugs, sitting for hours at the PA, with our Dad, Terry, always by her side, enduring countless drugs being injected into her body so she can spend as much time as possible with the family she loves and fight this monster called cancer as long as possible. Both the cancer and chemo drugs have taken their toll on Mum, making her suffer horribly with nausea, hair loss, constant tiredness and pain. But anyone who has spent even a moment with Mum during this can attest to how inspirational she's been about her cancer journey. She hasn't let it get her down and has never once given up or become negative and bitter. She's always smiling, happy and positive, determined to make each day count and living her best life.
In October 2019 we received the news that the chemo had stopped working and the cancer that had cleared from her lungs had once again returned to her lungs and soon after this we found out it has spread to her liver as well. Chemo treatments were stopped in October and Mum was basically told that she would be made as comfortable as possible for the time she had left.
This week we found out that the dedicated doctor who's been treating Mum has discovered a mutant pole within the tumour in her bowel and has told us of a chemotherapy treatment that may be able to attack this mutant pole and therefore attack the cancer. The downside - these treatments cost $6000 per round, and Mum would be facing 6 rounds. A total of $36,000 that has to be paid by us and isn't covered by Medicare.
This treatment is literally the last chance that our Mum has at life. There's no guarantee that it'll work and the gamble of it is that it could attack the cancer and buy Mum more time with her family, it could do nothing at all or it could completely cure her. The only way to know is to try, and continue our positive thoughts that this could work.
So here we are now, asking our family and friends if they are able to help us raise the funds to give Mum one more chance at life. Every dollar counts towards easing the financial burden from Mum and Dad's shoulders and making our family wish come true. The only thing we want is for Mum to beat this and be here with us, Dad and all her grandkids. If you could share this fundraiser on your wall and spread the word amongst your friends and in groups you belong to, then maybe we can make this ordeal a bit less stressful for our parents by easing some of the financial worries that are involved.
Thank you from all of us,
Carol, Kevin, Nicole, Kymberly and Michael.
