Hugh Macready had a love for life and adventure. He lived life to the full and was a passionate husband and dad. Hugh tragically passed away in a sailing accident off the coast of NSW in October of 2019, he was 38 years old. He had spoken of how happy he was to be on the ocean and had been thoroughly enjoying visits from bow-wave riding dolphins and even humpback whales during the trip. He is survived by his wife Kate and their two sons - Owen (4) and Laurie (2). We are raising funds to be shared between a donation to Beyond Blue in Hugh's name (a cause he felt passionately about) and a trust account for his two sons. Every donation over $2 is tax-deductible and all funds raised will be distributed to Hugh's family.
Update
23 Feb 2020
It has taken me a long time to put some words to this as there has been a lot going on, both time wise and emotionally with the Christmas period, January break, paperwork and start of the new working/ school year. It has been a challenging time, it was a time when we missed Hugh as he loved summer, the beach times, time with the kids and friends, time where we would have been talking about our future and making plans.  It is hard to put words to the feelings we are experiencing, as the pain of his loss is ever-present. It has been a period where I have had to accept a new way of doing things. To accept the truly caring and gracious offers of help from so many friends and family. This was no easy feat for someone who is staunchly independent (that’s me by the way - hi there). We are so very blessed to have many wonderful people in our lives. Particularly those who have given so much of their time and energy in helping with our two boys.We have been getting on with life. Time moves forward and the days continue to start and end. We are well on the whole and our project is to recast our world without our Hugh. It will take much time, but we have started. Thank you all so very much for your generous donations and kind words. I am still working on a plan for the best way to use the donations received and will keep you posted when the time comes. We have also received so many lovely letters telling stories about Hugh, so if you haven’t done one yet, please do so, you can send them to katelyons001@gmail.com as we are collating them for the boys.
