About

18/6 Update got my Visa and have pre booked flights.

Hi friends!

It’s been three years since I created my first MyCause page to help out Jorge, a young boy from Quito, Ecuador. When I met Jorge on my travels, he was 12 years old, not enrolled in school and as a result, on the streets collecting plastic for a living. I was compelled to do something about this and through MyCause, we successfully raised $950aud to have him enrolled in school and purchased school supplies. It was such a rewarding experience to be apart of and knowing that everyone who contributed made a huge impact on Jorge’s life for the better.

Here’s a recap if you missed seeing this in 2016:

Given the success of providing access to education for Jorge, I am passionate to action more change in the world and start a new MyCause project…

*Help send Marc to the Thabarwa Centre in Myanmar!*

So what is this Thabarwa Centre? What will I be doing there?
Well, read on…

The Thabarwa Center in Thanlyin, Myanmar (Burma) is a non-profit humanitarian organisation working for a noble cause. It is the sanctuary for persons from all regions of Myanmar who seek refuge for care and attention and desire to practice meditation.

The Center provides sanctuary for more than 2,400 people including aged persons, sick, infirm, blind, deaf, disabled, mental illnesses, homeless and helpless. This sanctuary is provided without discrimination or restriction as to age, health condition, nationality, social status or religion.

My goal is to travel to the Thabarwa Centre and donate my skills, time, energy, labour and materials to look after the welfare of the residents taking refuge there.

My volunteer role will include just some of the following:

- Setting up dhamma villages for homeless, helpless individuals and families
- Teaching English to locals and children, cooking and gardening
- Drilling artesian wells and surface wells for clean and safe drinking water.
- Helping the monks collecting alms during the morning routines
- Building pagodas, schools, meditation centres, etc. where it is urgently needed
- Daily practical activities and other miscellaneous jobs in assisting residents.
- Patient care, patient washing, physiotherapy and wheelchairing patients.
and much more.....

So what will the $500 I’m aiming to raise cover?

$500 is for my flights to get me there

I will sort out my other personal expenses such as travel insurance, basics, visa and any expenses needed.

If you don’t wish to donate money, I am also collecting items that you wish to donate. If its clothing must be cleaned and with no rips or stains. As much as I appreciate a good shirt that says "Thug Life" it must also have no logos too.

It will be the my first trip solely dedicated to volunteering so I am really excited but nervous at the same time. I’m coming in with no expectations, but I am preparing myself for a few things. It will be physically challenging because I’ll be throwing myself right into the deep end with manual labour in a foreign, developing country. It may be emotionally confronting at times getting to know the residents and hearing their stories. Given my reservations, I’m so ready to hit the ground running and get involved!

Whether you donate funds or clothes, know that your contribution is so appreciated and is going to an incredible cause. Thank you so much for your time in reading this and helping me get to the Centre to help the people of Myanmar!

Warmest regards,

Marc Vecchio
