I’m Corina Behrens. I was born in Venezuela and moved to Australia when I was 2; when I was 7, I started playing the violin. I’ve played in different ensembles and currently play in the Sydney Youth orchestra. I’m studying at a catholic school and as part of our integral education, we have the option to participate in the Antipodeans Program. Antipodeans takes students to an underdeveloped country and in a controlled way, we do our best to improve their quality of life by helping them build infrastructure to offer shelter and other basic needs. This 2018 we will travel to Borneo. Antipodeans can’t be paid by the parents, it requires that all participants raise their own the fees for this program, either with manual labour, regular work or through other options, I decided to use my musical ability.
Mis Raices Venezolanas compiles 10 classic pieces of Venezuelan music, featuring different genre like Joropo (Venezueln Folk), waltz, gaita, pasajes and more. Some of the rhythms were extremely unfamiliar to me but this experience helped me to connect with Venezuela, with my roots, with its music.
All the themes were carefully selected with the guidance, mentoring and arranges from el Maestro Gustavo Caruci, one of Venezuelan Greatest musicians. Mis Raices Venezolanas has been an international collaboration, my violin was recorded in Melbourne at Studio 56; Gustavo Caruci recorded the cuatro, guitar and bass guitar at studio Fidelis in Caracas; the incredible Manuel Rangel plays Las maracas from Geneve; the mix was done in Tampa, FL by my Uncle, the Music Eng. Oscar Moreau and it will be matrixed in Miami shortly.
All the earnings are destined for my Antipodeans program, hopefully you will enjoy it and want to support me in this journey. Any donation over $50 will receive a CD. you can let me know your address on my email at behrens.corina@gmail.com
Thanks!
Corina
