Some of you may be aware of the fundraising I have completed in 2016 for the Michael Hughes Foundation, whose mission is to raise public awareness on sudden cardiac arrest, promote the installation of publicly accessible defibrillators in every location they need to be and encourage everyone to be up to date with first aid training, including CPR techniques! This is obviously a charity close to my heart after losing my husband to sudden cardiac arrest in 2013, and my father also suffered a cardiac arrest in 2016 however he survived thanks to effective bystander CPR and a readily available defibrillator. I completed the Stadium Stomp at the SCG in July 2016 raising $1000 and also held a central coast raffle raising $1700. In 2017 I have decided to go bigger and better. On 21st August I fly out to Papua New Guinea to trek Kokoda. There's a number of reasons I'm doing this. 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign and the significant battles fought in Papua. My grandfather served at Kokoda as Lance Corporal with the 2/1st Pioneer Battalion. My dad has always wanted to complete Kokoda in honour of his father, however after his cardiac arrest earlier this year it's not something he'll be able to do. So I've decided to complete the trek and at the same time use the opportunity to fundraise for TWO organisations very close to my heart. The Michael Hughes foundation ( http://www.mhf.life ) and Feel the Magic ( http://www.feelthemagic.org.au ) whose mission it is to create enviroments where children who have experienced grief can be inspired and empowered to succeed in spite of their loss. I would appreciate any support no matter how small or BIG! I would also appreciate you sharing this far and wide with family, friends, colleagues, your sporting teams etc. If you know of any organisations who might be able to assist please pass this on! If your organisation or sports team would like to hold a fundraiser for us just let me know! If I can raise $1000 spending an hour running up and down 6300 stairs of the SCG then surely trekking Kokoda could be an easy $10,000 ;-) It costs approx. $2500 - $3000 for a defibrillator, and it costs $1000 for Feel the Magic to send a child to one of their camps. To meet my goal would allow me to significantly contribute to both of these charities. Thanks in advance, Kelly Drover
