The diabetes community has for some time now voiced it's concerns that vital medical technology available in Australis is and has become out of reach for many suffering diabetes. Continuous Glucose monitoring enables T1D's to closely monitor their blood glucose levels, this is important for reducing long term complications and the incident of hypoglycaemia. A number of persons with diabetes have died due to hypo unawareness syndrome, which could have been prevented if these newer technologies were available to the wider diabetes community who use insulin. The financial cost puts most suffering this chronic disease outside of being able to access it. The Federal Government is prepared to subside some under 18 year old but this does not address the wider diabetes community who are currently restricted from even consideration of subsidy by age discrimination.
This cause will assist in providing vital data, necessary to lobby Federal Health and peak bodies for fair and equatable availability of essential medical technology.
Enable ALL persons living with diabetes to have the views of the stakeholders heard.
Bring into focus the burden of persons living with diabetes and how this essential medical technology can not only lighten this burden on T1D's but also reduce the burden of cost long term.
The data produced by the survey will be the first time the diabetes community , the stakeholders, will independently be representing themselves.
Essential medical technology is for ALL persons with T1D, the young and the young at heart.
Medial technology is an exciting means to for change and reform in how diabetes is managed, it gives opportunities to the stakeholders to embrace a new level of independent management working with HCP's on achieving the strategic goals for ALL not just the fortunate few.

Hope this helps. We do need to get this message out there. I am currently paying $3000 a year for CGM. A subsidy would help enormoously.
