Mish's Cancer Battle

Once in a while, that special someone comes into your life and makes it a better place to be. For me and her family and friends that person is our amazing girl, Mish Deasy.

We met through a mutual friend and had an instant connection.

Mish had it all, a partner, two step children she adored and was raising as her own (as she could never have her own kids). Then her world fell apart.

In early March 2013 Mish was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. She spent about a year having chemotherapy, radiation, 4 operations and a variety of other treatments. She faced the toughest challenge of her life, it was hell for her and she suffered terribly. And to top it all off, she also faced domestic abuse from her then partner.

After about a year she went into remission and started getting her life back to normal. But then her abusive partner left. Packed up everything, took the kids and just left her, alone with practically nothing. So while she had beaten the cancer she wasn’t in a good place, as the family she thought she would grow old with was now gone. It was yet another tough time for her to deal with.

So again, with the help for her friends she slowly rebuilt her life and got back to ‘normal’. Mish would always need to monitor the cancer and have regular blood tests to make sure the cancer hadn’t returned. She had a few more ups and downs and returned to hospital for pneumonia and various other illnesses but overall her health was pretty good considering.

But on the 13 October 2015, Mish was admitted to hospital and doctors feared the worst. The cancer had returned. Scans showed the cancer had now spread to her lungs and liver. It was terminal and she was given 3 months without immediate treatment.

The devastating news has turned her world upside down and shocked all those that love her. The most important thing now is to focus on the positive, maintain her health and get her through the treatment.

All we can do is to try and ease the incredible financial strain of this sudden diagnosis. Medication is very expensive and Mish is no longer working due to her illness. We also want to raise money for her bucket list and try and make some beautiful memories for her last few months.

I asked Mish if she could do anything before she goes what would it be? Here is what she said:
• see her step kids one more time
• go to the snow
• get ‘married’ (no groom required!), she wants the wedding dress and a
day with her friends
• spend time with her friends
• anything that makes me feel pretty (hair, make-up, pampering etc.)
• go on holiday to Noosa, Byron, anywhere fun!
• go to Sydney to see my family and friends
• go to Dreamworld and see the tigers
• go to Paris and England.

We urgently need to raise enough money to start treatment. This could give her another year and provide her with valuable time to pursue her bucket list.

All donations will go directly into Mish’s bank account and will help with medications, necessary comforts and her bucket list.

Once the fundraising target is reached, I will be shaving my head. Additonal funds and my hair will be donated to charity to help others suffering from this terrible illness.

Mish is the very definition of strength and courage, she continues to smile and make the most of everyday. Thank you to everyone who has shown their support!
