The location of the run is Malvern Gardens, corner High Street and Spring Road, Malvern.

Sign-in opens at 9.00am on the day of the run for surnames beginning with A-M and 9.30 for those starting with N-Z.

The run will start at 10.00am and will be followed by a writing activity, children's activities, music and a family picnic, ending at 12.30pm.

Your child will receive a Fun Run t-shirt, waterbottle, bag and big snack pack on the day of the event.

Please bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle for your child, as well as wet weather gear if needed and bring a picnic blanket and food for a picnic after the run.

The park is near the road on one side; although volunteers will be watching the track, please keep an eye on your own children.

The Song Room is a national not for profit organisation that provides free, tailored, long-term music and arts-based programs for children in disadvantaged and high need communities.

The Song Room vision is that all Australian children have the opportunity to participate in music and the arts to enhance their education, personal development and community involvement. Programs are based on research and have been demonstrated to improve educational and social outcomes and to help schools sustain their own music and arts programs.

The Song Rooms delivers its programs to around 250 schools and communities each year and works with over 20,000 children every week. Programs are targeted to schools in the most marginalised communities from every State / Territory of Australia, from the 700,000 children in schools without specialist teachers in the arts.

Who do we help?

The Song Room provides tailored programs to disadvantaged children, who would otherwise miss out, including:

Socio-economically disadvantaged school communities
Indigenous communities both in urban and remote rural regions
Young people with health and disability challenges
New arrivals with English as a second language
Disengaged children with behavioural problems or in areas of high juvenile crime
Early intervention programs for children (0-5 years) and parents in disadvantaged areas
Geographically isolated and remote schools

Why is The Song Room unique?

The Song Room provides programs to over 40,000 children each year, but what makes The Song Room different is that the programs are:

free to schools, targeting only the most disadvantaged communities
long-term to achieve broader educational and social impact
tailored to particular school/community requirements

based around a range of music and arts media

WILDLIFE ASIA

Mission

The primary objective of Wildlife Asia is the protection and enhancement of the natural habitat of orangutans, gibbons, Asian rhinos, bears and other Asian wildlife.

Background

Wildlife Asia is a not for profit association raising funds in Australia to increase conservation contribution, capacity and efficiency for wildlife conservation.

Wildlife Asia and its field programs are active, throughout South East Asia in:

habitat protection (in particular tropical rainforest),
wildlife conservation (in particular Orangutan, Rhino, Bear and Gibbon), and
sustainable development for local communities.

How will the funds be used?

The orangutan’s rainforest habitat is disappearing at an unprecedented rate. 80% of the orangutan’s rainforests has been decimated in the past 20 years. Much of what remains is degraded by drought, forest fires and illegal logging. This destruction is also inflicting a massive amount of suffering on a species that is 97% genetically identical to humans, intelligent as a 5 to 6 year old child and is self-aware. Tragically, extinction in the wild is likely for both Sumatran and Bornean orangutans if we do not take immediate action.

Donations are important to The Orangutan Project because the funds help to provide ongoing support for a wide range of projects, including habitat protection, rehabilitation projects and orphan care centres.

For example:

Funded a community campaign to save the Tripa Swampin Aceh which consists of 61,803 hectares and has amongthe highest densities of orangutans anywhere in the world.
Started the Wildlife Projection Units in Sumatra Indonesia topatrol 250,000 hectares.
Achieved the first successful prosecution against injuring an orangutan.

Key Areas of Expenditure

The organization provides technical and financial assistance directly to conservation projects and orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centres. This includes much needed resources for the day-to-day care needs, the reintroduction of orphaned orangutans and the locating and securing of release sites. Presently there are over 2,000 orphaned orangutans living in care centres in Borneo and Sumatra.
