I was born with a complicated congenital heart defect (cc TGA), that resulted in open heart surgery when I was 9. I am extremely fortunate and have led a mostly "normal" life, including being blessed with a gorgeous son.

I have recently become connected with a group of similar people through the ‘Fontan Registry’. This registry is gathering information to help discover what the future holds for me; and others like me. Very little is known at this stage. It is also collating data based on existing Fontan patients to assist the ever increasing future generations with congenital heart disease.

Some of the research includes fertility and pregnancy outcomes. This information didn't exist when I had Crosby and the process was very much a, “wait and see”. I am one of only 15 women that have had babies with a Fontan circulation Australia and NZ wide.

Exercise types and their benefits are being researched, as well as liver and kidney disease associated with a Fontan circulation and the incidence and success of heart transplant or conversion surgery (an updated version of my original surgery).

I have also become involved with ‘Heart Kids SA’. They provide support in a multitude of ways for children and families dealing with the stresses of having a child with Congenital Heart disease.

As with most research and volunteer organisations they require funding. A dear friend of mine and avid walker, Janice Watt and myself are organising a 30km walk called Summit to Sea. We are walking from Mount Lofty to Kingston Park. Although few believe me, at this stage I am planning to complete the 30km walk too. Training has commenced (I'm up to 20kms on the flat!!)

We would love your support.

This can be done in one or more of the following ways:

1. Walk with us!!! If 30kms is too overwhelming, just walk the first 15kms!! Registration fee of $50 for 30km and $25 for 15km. Proceeds to be donated in equal parts to ‘Fontan Registry’ and ‘HeartKids SA’.

We will provide:

  • Team leaders (proficient walkers to lead the way).
  • Maps, directions and a marked trail.
  • Drink & snack stops along the way.
  • A celebratory BBQ on completion.

2. Gain sponsorship for completing the walk. (Not compulsory but every bit helps)

3. Walking not your thing or not going to be in Adelaide - sponsor me!!There are those who don't think I should complete this walk but I have the ok from my cardiologist and am determined to do it!

4. Volunteer services or goods. We are hoping to have all the required supplies donated. Let me know if you’re keen to help out.
