The SIDS Stampede 2nd September 2012
With the approval of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead we have organised an innovative, family and health focused fundraiser, The SIDS Stampede. This event is a fun run and walk event culminating in a country festival.
All money raised with go directly to the SIDS and Sleep Apnoea Research Department at The Children’s Hospital Westmead. My aim is that by raising money scientist may find a cure or the trigger thus preventing other parents experiencing these tragic events.
SIDS and Sleep Apnoea is a condition that claims the lives of 1 in 2000 infants in Australia every year. Although remarkable progress has been made in reducing the incidence of SIDS in the last 20 years, many questions remain unanswered. The SIDS and Sleep Apnoea Research Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is working to find some of these answers and relies on community support to continue their important work. The SIDS and Sleep apnoea research department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the only laboratory in Australia currently performing neuro-pathological studies aimed at identifying differences in brain markers in infants who have died suddenly, to identify differences between SIDS and non-SIDS cases.
My son Ryan nearly died when he was two days old from SIDS. Miraculously Ryan survived with the help of Paramedics and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. I am a mum hoping to save some other family from the possible trauma of losing a child. My family are lucky, but without support, education and research, to many families a year will continue to lose their children. I have decided that I have to help change this, but I need help. I need your help.

A COUNTRY FESTIVAL FOLLOWING THE EVENT:
The festival will be advertised as a Country Picnic. Local producers of fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, olive growers and wineries will be selling their produce. All sponsors and associated partners will have their own marquees on the day. Games and activities will be held for all children on the day e.g. egg and spoon races, sack races etc. Music and entertainment this event is free as an entrant to the run/walk. You can join just the park event for which there may be a small donation requested.
