About us

The Type1 Foundation was founded in June 2015 by two passionate and dedicated parents Ange and Leif McCaughley. The Type1 Foundation is based in Victoria and was created in response to a gap in understanding and lack of awareness around Type 1 Diabetes after their daughter Lila was diagnosed a year earlier at age 9.

The primary aim of the foundation is to create a generation of young people with Type 1 Diabetes who understand, accept and therefore properly manage their condition responsibly.

What we are doing?

The Type1 Foundationcreates events directed towards people living with Type 1 Diabetes. We  events for families in Victoria  living with Type 1 Diabetes.

This is achieved by hosting Diabetes Camps for the children. These events are a great opportunity for children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes to meet other children living with the same condition.

These events create a support network, where children can interact with others and therefore feel less isolated. We have health professionals, Diabetes educators and volunteers supervising these activities. We also provide a safe environment for all children attending these events.

The consequence will be a generation of children able to increase their skills of managing Type 1 Diabetes in a non clinical and more relaxed setting for all.

The Type1 Foundation also create events to support parents and families living with this illness daily. Parents are able to interact with other parents of children living with Type 1 Diabetes. Thus creating a support network and resulting in better management of their child's condition. This will hopefully elimate some of the isolation commonly found within families.

Education

The Type1 Foundation plans to implement Type 1 diabetes Education and management plans throughout every school in Victoria. Staff training by a Qualified Diabetes Educator, Diabetes Doctor and ongoing support given to the schools. This will enable every child living with Type 1 Diabetes that attends school, the trust that their illness will be managed correctly and support given on a ongoing basis.
