G'day folks. I’m excited to be performing at Camp for a Cure, a weekend of music, camping and community at Gootchie Creek Escape (QLD) over the first weekend of May.
The event brings together music lovers and talented artists for a couple of days of live music and good vibes — all raising funds for the Love Your Sister Foundation.
On Sunday 3rd of May, I’ll be performing and shaving off my long silver hair to raise extra donations.
If you can’t make it in person, you can still help via this MyCause page. Every dollar makes a difference!
The 'MyCause' people tell me that I should share my story as to why I am choosing to do this.... They say make it emotional in order to make more people donate. I am not one who really does the 'look at my story' for the sake of self gratification or pity. It's just not true to me. I mean heck, I bet almost every single person who is reading this message, would be able to raise their hand and say 'I know someone with cancer, or who had cancer, or has passed away from cancer'.
But I will share that in the past few years, I have had six immediate family members diagnosed with some form of cancer. All six have experienced different journeys.
I will be open in saying that in October 2025, my beautiful Mother In-law, Ros, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with a stage 4 glioblastoma tumour that was diagnosed in February of 2025. We still feel her presence with us every day.
These kind of stories, are not as rare as they once were. This is where so many of us have a common thread that brings us connection, understanding and empowerment through support on an emotional level.
If you can donate a little or a lot, please do. If you can't, I understand completely that we are in hard times and if you would click the old 'share' button, I would be deeply grateful.
Much love,
Ricki Wood
