Thanks for visiting my Fundraising Page for Hut2Hut - Oscars100 2025!
I will be participating in this trek of 100km and almost 6000m of vertical over 2 days solo, to raise awareness and funds for autism. I first did the 55km Archie’s event in 2020 and have volunteered each year since. Being close to my heart with lived experience with someone who identifies as autistic, and full time carer, my journey started 7 years ago when I first saw developmental delays with Jack. He was 20 months old and had a regression in social development and his social anxiety increased. Within months I felt my confident walking and talking toddler change and it was a challenging time to learn how to communicate and be in the moment with him. Jack was selective mute and Complex PTSD was the first diagnosis at 5, before I later confirmed Jack’s autism level 2 at the age of 6. Each day we wake up can be volatile and uncertain. I am neurodiverse myself so I do see things differently. I do enjoy the benefits of creative thinking, being able to change at the drop of a hat and needing little information to make decisions, however parenting and social constructs can be challenging in what's largely still a neurotypical world. We are lucky to have each other and much funded professional support, but it’s still hard to access these services and fit it in working full time, trying to navigate NDIS and solo parenting with a vulnerable child. Many people can’t get the much needed funds to support them on their autistic journey. I love the Oscar’s hut2hut event and everything the community stands for. I am privileged to have a body and legs that can carry me across this rugged technical terrain and it will be my toughest adventure yet. I have done 4x100k events and recently a 50miler that ended up being 93km (don’t ask!). You can sponsor me and leave a message by selecting the donate button above.
Thanks for supporting our efforts in raising money for this cause!
Good luck Fiona! Cheering you on and hoping you and your wonderful boy are doing well.
