When I was 10 years old I had a terrible accident and injured my brain. I was rushed to the emergency department of the Royal Children’s Hospital where the trauma team worked on me. My injuries required life saving surgery from the neurosurgical team headed by Dr Alison Wray. Dr Wray worked late into the night and I was admitted to the intensive care unit and placed in an induced coma. My condition was extremely delicate and I required many surgeries during my 26 days in ICU.
Through the outstanding efforts of the doctors, nurses and surgical team in the ICU, I became stable enough to be transferred to the rehabilitation ward (kelpie). I spent a further 5 months learning to eat, drink, talk and walk again.
The Royal Children’s Hospital saved my life, and I will be forever grateful.
I am now 14 years old and I have worked extremely hard with my rehab. It has taken almost 4 years and countless hours of therapy to be able to ride my bike again. On 27th January I will be participating in the family ride for the Cadel Evans road ride.
If you are able, could you please donate to my campaign so The Royal Children’s Hospital can continue to provide world class care to children like me.
