Why am I doing this?

I grew up in and around family violence. I have seen what it does to families. To mothers and children.

The impact on me growing up has been far reaching. The horrors I witnessed will stay with me forever.

My late Mum was a lifelong victim of violent men. We moved house many times to escape the perpetrator, but he found us every time.

One of my vivid memories as a teenager is spending time in a women’s refuge with Mum and my siblings. It was a fearful time, but the care and support we received was something that I see so much of in the support that Karinya House offers to Mums and Bubs.

It may not be the same circumstances that lead some women to Karinya, but the support and care is just the same.

They are a truly incredible team offering a critical service in our community.

I’ve been fundraising for Karinya for the past 3 years through an annual event I have been putting together called Phenomenal Women in Song. I had hoped to run it again this year but it just may not happen, so this Fundraising Walk is my way of still supporting the work of Karinya House.
