Hunger is a Story We Can End...... Mike and I started Cafe Outside The Square back in 2017, with the mission to become South Australia's leading provider of food support and training opportunities for the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community. We operate as a cafe by day, functions centre by night, and have a volunteer driven soup kitchen producing tens of thousands of healthy hearty meals and distributing them out to people in the community who don’t always have a meal on the table. This includes clients of other fabulous charities that we work with, such as Hutt St Centre, Baptist Care and Vinnies, to name a few. We are 100% community driven, with no ongoing government support, and rely on the generous offerings of money and time from our supporters, and the profits from our cafe and functions trading, to provide our services. Recent funding cuts in SA to key service providers has increased demand on our services significantly. Our board and management team also volunteer their time and efforts 100% in accordance with our constitution, so every dollar we raise can go to feeding and training those in need. Importantly too, the more food we can produce, the more training opportunities we can provide across a wider range of activities and services. On Thursday June 3, we are getting together with an awesome group of supporters to make a whole lot of hearty healthy meals in our Soup Kitchen, under the guidance of the fabulous Maggie Beer, to go out to people who need them - before going to sleep rough under the stars - rain hail or shine - on a piece of cardboard at Ayers House. Your donation will directly support both our SoupKitchen and our training programs, and just like in previous years donations will also help support Vinnies, in helping us pay them rent to utilise their otherwise empty space.
