This Darkness swim means so much to me and I'm going to swim it as though people's lives depend on it...because they do. This swim will be 19.7kms from Perth to Rottnest (Wadjemup) Island in complete darkness. I want to show those struggling that you are strong enough to make it through the darkness and see the light at the end. I have been surrounded by mental illness my whole life, literally from the day I was born and have seen the first hand effects that depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses have on people's lives. My father suffered from depression, my best friend at school had severe panic attacks so much she'd fall to the ground, myself experiencing depressive stages and panic attacks, my friends self harming, other family members struggling to live day to day lives because of depression and another one of my friends was suicidal and called Lifeline who saved her life.
Seeing those whom I have so much love for struggle so much to the point they can't see the light and believe the only way to cope is to end their lives seriously breaks my heart.
I have chosen Lifeline WA because they are literally on the front line saving peoples lives every day and giving them hope that there is a reason to live. Lifeline's volunteers do incredible work, however there is a high demand for more volunteers as currently there isn't enough and people's calls for help are going unanswered.
Your donations will fund training for these volunteers so people who are about to end their lives can have their calls answered and their lives can be saved.
I can't possibly thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support I have already received. Thank you to everyone who donates, YOU ARE LIFESAVERS...literally.
