Floods in North-West Queensland have devastated my mothers town, home, animals and livelihood. The entire town was 2meters underwater. She was evacuated Thursday along with her single neighbour and was forced to leave over 200 animals behind taking only a backpack and a kangaroo joey. In addition to this a train has tipped toxic minerals (lead, copper, zinc) next to the town. She will need help to get back on her feet as she has lost food, clothes, electronics, furniture, animal feed and pretty much everything else she owns both inside and outside will be ruined. Insurance will take time (if we are even covered for flood), and disaster relief will not be enough - she will need money just to get started. Please help us.

Finally mum has been allowed to return and help Eric with the clean up. I'm told it looks like a war zone. I haven't seen any photos from inside the house except the back toilet and laundry which were full of mud. Apparently it's very very bad.

Some good news and bad news: Most of the 'house goats' as we call them (due to many being hand raised) were found alive and inside the main house, Milly the cow is safe, Ruth the pig was found relaxing on a bed in the back house, and there are a selection of peacocks, turkeys, ducks, geese and sheep roaming around along with Ziggy and two other dogs. I'm sad to say many young herd goats didn't make it, Booboo the goat was found deceased at the back house because she didn't want to leave Milly, the new piglets are nowhere to be seen, and the devastation to what was over 150 chickens is immense. Less than 10 seem to have survived. Due to the amount of animals who did not make it we cannot share photos of the destruction at this time as it is too distressing. Also there were originally 7 dogs left, only 1 being ours. We do not know what happened to the other 4. The land and house are thoroughly destroyed with mud and debris everywhere, but the house is structurally sound it seems. The clean up will be long and hard.

We have news! The water is receeding, and our beloved Ziggy and a few others are alive (and skinny). The two other dogs belong to another person from the community. No news yet on Milly or the pigs (and as you can see, no birds in there pictures though we are told the pilot saw ducks and geese). Thankyou so much to the kind person who sent feed with her husband that was flying the Rail crew to visit the site.

Thankyou for your support so far! We still have no new information on when we can return, the level of the water, or the state of the animals, but we do know that Queensland Rail are working with environmental teams on the mineral spill. We will keep you updated.
