This May I'm challenging myself to get active to support people with arthritis, like me, who live every day of their lives with pain, stiffness and immobility. People who find the simplest of tasks almost impossible. For me opening a bottle of wine or a packet of chips is a struggle, but I persevere which is possibly why (aside from severe arthritis in my hands) I also find doing up my pants a near impossible task!
All jokes aside, arthritis is a serious, painful and debilitating disease.
I’ve had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis since the age of 7. I’ve had 7 joint replacement operations, both feet reconstructed, an ankle fused, and my neck fused from my head to C5. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease which doesn’t just affect the joints but can also affect the heart and lungs and other organs. I have hypogammaglobulanemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenia (ITP) and lymphocytic colitis to name just three of the consequences of having RA!
So it’s not just an old persons disease that leads to knee replacements and difficulty opening bottles. It affects babies, toddlers, seven year olds (!!), parents, aunties and grandparents too, and it could (and possibly does) affect you or someone you love!
This May, I pledge to do some form of exercise at least 3 times per week. I won’t be running a marathon or doing the downward dog but I might move in the pool or exercise on my bed or use my deskcycle. Whatever my body lets me do, I’m in!
I want to raise at least $1000 to support people living with arthritis and I need your help to get there! So please dig deep.
Thanks
Nicx
