The TLC's Education Team have a goal to raise $1,500.00 to build teacher housing at O’takok Lower Secondary School in Svay Lue District, Siem Reap Province. O’takok is about 234 km from Siem Reap town. The school has 5 teachers (2 females) who come from other districts of Siem Reap Province and it is too far for them to travel there every day. Currently, the male teachers are living with the monks at the pagoda and the female teachers are living with families in the community. By building a house it will not only encourage teachers to remain and work in this community but can also be used to house students who live far from the school and have a challenging journey along a jungle road. O’takok is one of 12 lower secondary schools where TLC’s Education Team works with School Support Committees (SSC) to provide capacity building on how to help their children, motivate their community on education, and improve school facilities to attract students. We strive to help communities increase secondary school enrolment and reduce dropout rates. Every community we work in decides their own development priorities for improving their schools. In O’takok, the community decided that teacher housing is a key priority to support the school and its students. The community has agreed to provide the labor -- your support will go towards purchasing the building materials and tools to build a 4 room house.
