Corey is currently on the waiting list for a specifically trained Autism Assistance Dog. These special dogs cost over $25000 to raise and train. Our Family is required to contribute to Corey's dog via fundraising efforts. His dog will assist with: - lowering anxiety - providing companionship - reducing sensory overload - sleeping through the night - keeping him safe in public We have begun our fundraising to reach our goal of $20,000 Please help Corey by helping with fundraising or making a donation. All donations over $2 are tax deductible. Hi, my name is Corey Moore and I was born on the 26th September 2007. From the moment, I was born I was a very sick baby. I died five times I had machines that were used to breath for me. When the doctors were trying to save my life, they pierced my left lung which caused it to fully collapse. I had to fight to survive and I amazed the Doctors each day as they didn’t think I would make it through. The doctors didn’t know why I was so sick, so they got a team from Royal Children’s hospital to come and collect me. That night my mum and dad found out that I had a heart Condition called Telralogy of fallot - Absent Pulmonary Valve Syndrome. This means that I had 3 holes in my heart and my Pulmonary valve was four time the size it should have been, as well as it being a two-way valve instead of it being a one-way valve. At 7 weeks, old, I had my first heart surgery – otherwise I would have died. After they operated on my heart they found out that I also had the worst case of an air way condition called Tracheobronchomalacia. This meant that I couldn’t keep my air ways open on my own and when I cried they would just such down on me where I couldn’t breathe. I used to breath like sucking ice cream out of a straw. This was caused by my heart condition, as my heart was compressing my lungs and the heart blood vessels had wrapped themselves around my air ways so from birth to 7 weeks old my air ways became floppy as they were getting restricted, and they couldn’t work like they were supposed to. When I was 8 weeks old I had to go back and have another operation where they had to put in a Tracheostomy into my neck so they could attach a CPAP machine aka a long-term ventilator which made hot air go into my lungs so I could breathe and keep my air ways open. I spent the first 13 ½ months of my life in hospital with 10 ½ months at the Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. My mum fought hard to get me home. She contacted A Current Affair and we got back home to Albury, where I spent another 3 months at my local hospital. In 2011 my mum and dad got told I also had frontal lobe brain syndrome. This is brain damage caused from lack of oxygen to the brain. In 2012 I also got diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, ODD and anxiety. In 2014 I was diagnosed with Intellectual Disability and sensory Processing Difficulties across multiple areas including my vestibular and proprioceptive system. When it feels as though one of my health issues is diagnosed and treated she finds out a new underlying one has appeared and it’s something else to deal with. My life is very hard as I get very angry a lot. I don’t know how to control my emotions and impulse. Despite all our struggles, each day, no matter how big or small my mum keeps on fighting for me. I am 9yrs old now and I have really struggled with my behaviour and with my mum trying her best to help me throw it with OT therapy, Speech therapy the doctors don’t know how to support me. I am now at a good school and they have a very special dog there named Fawn. Fawn is a pet therapy dog and me and Fawn are great friends. As Fawn, can help me to regulate my emotions and my behaviour while I am at school. But I can’t always have her when I need her as she might be with another child who needs her like I do. This Is why my mum is trying to raise money so I can have my own dog like Fawn so I can be helped to stay calm and do my everyday tasks. With my very own special dog I can go down the street, my dog can help me with my anxiety when I go to the doctors or to hospital as these two places are so hard for me. My dog can stay with me and help me to stay calm and I will have my very own friend to be with me to make me feel safe. It is very important to me and my mum and dad to have a very special trained dog who can help me to grow and be a better person and be a part of the community. Thank you so much love from Corey.
