The story so far... A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... no wait, that's Star Wars.
I have been in Apex for a few years, (I'm told I'm too old now!) anyway, I met a mate in 2008 in Jamestown (down the pub) from Apex who told me about this "postie-bike" ride to raise funds for childhood cancer, all I had to do was buy a bike, put some off road bits on it, and we're off! (like a bride's nightie)
So in 2008 I went on the ride, and what a ride, 1200 kms of goat tracks and bush roads through the magnificent Flinders, I lost 5 kilo's in 4 days. First night out, I rang Wifee and told her I wasn't sure I could do 3 more days, I had fallen off twice, had cramp in both legs and was absolutely knackered! But I had a glass of HTFU and on we went. What a time! I met a guy whose son died of cancer who used to ride with us, the whole thing started the year before when 7 riders (his mates) raised $10,000 on the first run, in 2008 Apex started to help out, it saw 22 riders and another $20,000 raised, 2010 it was over 60 riders and over $60,000!! 2011 saw over $100,000 raised!! And so it has gone on...It's a privilege to ride with these blokes, I can tell you. So this year, we have about 90 riders, and who knows how much will be raised!
(90 riders!! .. there's going to be some carnage in the outback this year!)
So, in order to enter, you buy your own bike, pay all you own food, accommodation, fuel, drinks, etc. Then you must raise at least $500 each for the privilege of beating yourself to death on rough tracks through non existent postie-bike suspension!....Cant wait!!
Today in South Australia, 25 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ for the very first time. That’s one every hour, of every day, here in South Australia. From the time you woke this morning until the time you sleep tonight 25 more South Australians will be diagnosed with cancer.
With your donation you will help to build the retreats which will support Cancer Council SA to make a positive difference in these peoples' lives.
Please help me to make a difference.
Enjoy and keep safe - Mum
