Thanks for visiting our Fundraising Page for Tasmanian Iconic Walks 2024 - Prevent Stroke fundraiser!
Most of us these days know somebody who has been impacted by a stroke - either directly or indirectly. Working in the disability sector in Tasmania, I've met and worked with many.
Did you know that Tasmanians have a 25% higher prevalence of stroke than the national average? And that Indigenous Australians have a stroke incidence rate that is two to three-fold that of non-Indigenous Australians. Or that 80% of strokes are preventable?
As keen bushwalkers, we jumped on board this opportunity to hike the beautiful Tarn Shelf Circuit in the alpine area of Mount Field National Park on the 6th April and raise valuable funds for stroke prevention.
100% of this will go to Menzies Institute for Medical Research and fund their current research project Preventing Stroke MOOC. A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course that will be available globally for anyone interested in stroke prevention.
