My husband, Irwin made aliyah to Israel 20 years ago from Cape Town, South Africa. We've been married for almost 15 years now and have four beautiful boys at our home in Givat Shmuel. On Simchat Torah, when the unthinkable atrocities unfolded, Irwin unquestionably knew that he would volunteer and go to the frontline to protect Israel and its citizens.
Irwin is stationed on the Lebanon border and part of the *Alexandroni Brigade, Regiment 8101, Squad 2 platoon. Irwin and his fellow 90 combatants are strong-willed and in good spirits, appreciating all the love and support from both far and near.
However there is still critical equipment missing, and we are trying to desperately raise the funds to ensure they have what is needed. Their unit commander has provided a list of what is needed right now, including but not limited to backpacks, hip bags, waterproof shoes, water canteens, water-resistant shirts and trousers, head lamps, watches, leather-man accessories and gel insoles etc.
Our goal is to raise a total of $100,000 USD split between:
- Australia where are seeking to raise $30,000 USD ($50,000 AUD) here which is tax-deductible for Australian residents only and;
- Israel, US, Canada and UK where we are seeking to raise $70,000 USD which is tax-deductible for Israeli, American, Canadian and British citizens. You can access that page here: https://www.jgive.com/new/en/ils/donation-targets/112970/about
The IDF did not anticipate that 130% or 360,000 reserves to sign up in such a short period of time. In addition to the nearly 170,000 active-duty soldiers, this has presented tremendous logistical challenge to get the necessary provisions to soldiers.
The funds raised will go directly to a non-profit organisation called Metzion under the auspices of the Tel Aviv International Synagogue. The provisions will be purchased within Israel from retail and/or wholesale suppliers. Where this is not possible, the goods will be sourced overseas and shipped to Israel. Once the goods are received, they will be distributed directly via non-profit helicopter service to Irwin’s Alexandroni Brigade.
