Thanks for visiting our fundraising page for Team Wonder!
Kayla is 1 on 20th November 2016.
As many of you know, our baby girl came to this earth in quite a dramatic fashion and fought very hard to have the beautiful life she has today. Kayla was born at 32 weeks gestation and spent her first five weeks in RPA NICU. She would not be here without the incredible work of RPA Newborn Care. We experienced the great care, support and love from the NICU doctors and nurses. We are forever grateful for them as we have our little bub with us.
RPA Newborn Care is the intensive care unit for sick and premature babies at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA) in Camperdown. It is the largest maternity hospital in New South Wales, caring for all the very small and sick babies born in RPA and other babies who are transferred from hospitals around the state. Around 900 babies are treated in RPA Newborn Care every year and in the 36 years of service over 29,000 babies have been cared for.
Funding is critical to ensure the best and most up to date equipment is available to maintain the world class standard of this intensive care unit. Current equipment needs include a neonatal intensive care monitoring system, which continuously displays the baby's vital signs, immediately notifying staff of the slightest change; phototherapy units to treat jaundice, which affects around 50% of babies, and ventilators, providing the "the breath of life" for many premature and sick newborns.
Not only did RPA Newborn Care save Kayla's life, they provided a social worker, lactation consultant, the newborn care support team and of course specialist consultants, nurses and physiotherapists were all available, making our bumpy start as a family as smooth and supported as it could be.
Rather than gifts to celebrate our Kayla's first birthday we ask that you contribute to Little Wonder, the fundraising arm of RPA Newborn Care, to assist them to continue their incredible life saving work. Any amount is appreciated, nothing is too small.
You can contribute and leave a message by selecting the donate button above.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our efforts in raising money for this wonderful organisation!
