“Reconciliation is not an easy or straight-forward process it will require fresh ideas to bring about positive change. This is where young people come in.” Leah Armstrong. Reconciliations Australia CEO

The ICEA (Indigenous Communities Education & Awareness) Foundation is a youth-driven not-for-profit organisation that works closely with indigenous and non-indigenous younths to inspire reconciliation, through mutual respect for all Australians.

ICEA’s Programs form an important part of our strategy to achieve Australia-wide reconciliation. The ICEA Waves Program was established in recognition and appreciation of the strong link between the ocean and Aboriginal people throughout Australia. The Waves program is an opportunity for indigenous and non-indigenous youths to get together and connect with each other in a fun, safe environment. The beach and sporting activities are used as a medium for creating experiences, building understanding and developing mutually respectful relationships. The program incorporates cultural awareness workshops which encourages the wider community to appreciate indigenous perspectives of environmental connectedness and sustainability.

“ICEA is a place to get together and talk about the importance of one mob. It’s about reconciliation – Indigenous and non-indigenous people coming together. I’m involved because I get to run cultural awareness events and get people talking about what is happening in our own country ” Kimberly Benjamin. Marja Mob Mentor
