The Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA) is the peak body for the sarcoma community. ANZSA aims to improve outcomes for sarcoma patients through research, education and awareness of sarcomas and related tumours.

	 

	Sarcoma research receives significantly less funding than other types of cancers due to the rarity and varied types of sarcoma tumours. As a result, sarcoma researchers have limited resources to work on projects that may be the next breakthroughs in sarcoma diagnosis or treatment.

My mum was diagnosed with a rare leiomyosarcoma (LMS) in Feb 2025. We thought the operation to remove the cancer gave her the all-clear. Not so. In Sept/Oct 2025 we discovered it had metastasized elsewhere. She now has a stage 4 cancer which is incurable and life-limiting. Mum is not going to get to see my youngest kids grow into their teens, or my biggest kids get to be proper grown-ups. She won't get to see me become a grandma (if that ever happens). And that sucks. THURSDAY 16TH OCTOBER (date changed due to chemo appt logistics!) I am going to do a SURPRISE SOLIDARITY SHAVE for mum, while I am in Qld with her. (Emphasis on SURPRISE folks! This is why some of you won't see this page until AFTER I'm a Nude Nut!) The two charities I am supporting are the Australia &amp; New Zealand Sarcoma Association and Love Your Sister: Per ANZSA: "Sarcoma research receives significantly less funding than other types of cancers due to the rarity and varied types of sarcoma tumours." That cause has been close to my heart since we drove past Sam Johnson just starting his ride around Oz on a unicycle to raise money for cancer research, as my husband and I were moving our family to Alice Springs. We watched this flawed, open-hearted human slog his guts out in honour of his dying sis and his promise to her. I want to support LYS because it's about bloody time I gave more than my appreciation for his work and purchasing a LYS cap. The only other thing I have to say? Fuck cancer.

In April this year we received the devastating news that Chris had a rare and aggressive cancer called  Leiomyosarcoma (LMS).  Not only was it rare but it was also in a rare location being present in his palate, Sinus and nasal area.  He had to undergo life changing major surgery to remove the tumour as well as radiotherapy. Chris has had a great medical team throughout his process and since his diagnosis, we have come to realise that sarcoma’s are underfunded and unfortunately often found too late so this is just one of the reasons we have decided to support this amazing cause and raise money to help those battling, those survivors and those who sadly lost their battle to this awful disease. 

Until now, Chris asked for privacy and kept his battle amongst immediate family and close friends only.  In order to raise vital funds we now feel it is time to share Chris's story and together beat this awful disease!
