Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation, (previously known as Camp Kookaburra) was founded in 2002 by Dianne Madden who through personal experience recognised the lack of support for children who lived in a family affected by mental illness. Often the forgotten sufferers of mental illness children living with a family member are very much in need of support and understanding as well as the opportunity just to be a kid.
Our Purpose :
To support children in school grades 3 to grade 12 who are living in families affected by mental illness. Providing a place where kids can be kids through recreational camps and school holiday activities that are fun, safe, healthy and positive. To provide the support and education they need to cope with their family situation.
Our Philosophy :
Supporting kids to be kids.
Kookaburra Kids believes that investing in children is the most compassionate and economic investment we can make. Whether it is done financially, emotionally or by lessening the stigma and feelings of isolation, both the community and these children will reap the rewards.
