Roseberry Community Services
Roseberry Community Services Limited first came into being back in the mid 1980s when a committee was formed locally to apply for funding for a youth shelter in Gladstone. The shelter, Roseberry House, as we now know it, began operation in February 1986, with its official opening in May of the same year. The shelter was located at 6 Roseberry Street, and hence its name being associated with the street to make it easier for young people to locate. In 2001 a new shelter was constructed at its present location in Rollo Street.
After the shelter was operating for a number of years it became apparent that once young people left the shelter they required ongoing support if they were to live independently in the community. So, the organisation grew with the appointment of an Transition to Independent Living (TIL) Worker, then a Family Support Worker to give support to families and young people to keep the family unit functioning. Over the years as needs were identified additional funding was applied for to meet these needs in the community, with the Youth Development Program Branchout being funded in 1998 and soon after this the Reconnect funding which provides further support to families and young people in crisis. The latest programs to be added to our portfolio are our Housing Programs and then in November 2007 our services in Rockhampton.
Over the years as the organisation has grown it has changed its name many times. The current name evolved from its previous one of Roseberry Youth Services so our name now reflects the work we do with others in the community through our housing programs.
