Appeal to help Parkerville fire victims

The Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund (LMDRF) has been activated to raise and coordinate donations to support the victims of the fire currently burning in parts of Perth hills.

The LMDRF is the recognised state emergency fund and provides relief for personal hardship and distress arising from natural disasters occurring within Western Australia. 

No administrative charges are made by the City of Perth for support services provided to the Fund and all money collected goes directly to victims.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said she was saddened by the devastating impact of the fire and the resulting extensive loss and damage to property. Early estimates put the number of homes lost at more than 40.

“The fire demonstrates clearly how people’s lives can change suddenly when events such as this happen,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Most people would be shaken by the weekend’s events and through the LMDRF they can help those people who are suffering now and who face such a big job in rebuilding or cleaning up after the fires are extinguished.

“The LMDRF is run by an independent board and all the money goes to victims, with donations of $2 and above being tax deductible.

“The appeal is set up in a way that allows assistance to be dispensed relatively quickly.”
