Backpack Bed for Homeless

Backpack Bed for Homeless (Swags for Homeless Ltd) is a national charity which provides Backpack Beds and Fire Retardant Sleeping Bags to street sleeping homeless people without shelter.

We work in partnership with 800 homeless agencies across Australia to reach homeless people who do not have any other form of accommodation. The Backpack Bed is study proven to improve health, dignity, sleep, warmth, comfort and safety.

Our Fire Retardant Sleeping Bag is machine washable, lightweight and fire retardant to airline blanket standards.

Awarded a 2011 Australian Human rights award by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

The Backpack Bed® emergency bed is lightweight – a backpack that rolls out to an all-weather protected bed with built-in mattress.

The Backpack Bed meets 47 international safety and quality standards and rolls up to be worn as an ergonomic backpack – allowing for safe storage of personal items and reducing the stigma attached to carrying around visible bedding. Weighing just 3kg, each Backpack Bed is made from fire retardant materials and is waterproof, windproof and mildew resistant.

The live saving Backpack Bed was designed to give dignity to homeless peorple turned away from shelter. It is no mean feat, governments around the world have yet to figure out how to give dignity and protect the human rights of people sleeping on the street. Yet, the internationally acclaimed Backpack Bed has proven; by the support of over 800 homeless authorities and 1000’s of homeless, to improve the health, dignity and comfort of those sleeping on our streets, under bridges and throughout our citiies.
