Located on Balcombe Heights Estate in Baulkham Hills, Woodbury is a small independent school for children with autism which caters for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 with varying degrees of autism.
Autism is a severely incapacitating neurological disorder. Currently 1 in 100 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Autism is characterised by impairments in social interaction and communication by restricted and / or repetitive patterns of behaviours, interests and activities. Without effective intervention / education, children with autism often remain completely dependent on others. The only research validated method of improving the academic, social and emotion outcomes for children with autism is Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
At Woodbury, we use ABA as the methodology to educate children and give them the best chance in life of becoming fully functioning adults. We are the only such school in New South Wales and was the first school in Australia to do so. All our programs are tailored to meet the needs of the child and address areas such as; but not limited to, communication, behaviour, academics, self help and independence.
Educating children using ABA requires a high staff to student ratio. Classes are small, and students are taught 1:1 and in small groups. Due to the high staff to student ratio, and the high level of expertise required to develop and implement the program, an education for children at our school is very expensive for parents.
By supporting our fundraising initiatives you are not only changing the lives of a child with autism, but you are also helping families provide their child with the best education available to meet their own specific needs.
Every child has a right to an appropriate education
Thank you for helping our very special children shine!
