Wollangarra is an independent, non-profit organisation situated beside the Macalister River south of Licola, Victoria. Through outdoor education, Wollangarra aims to provide a small but vital step towards a healthier environment, a stronger community and happier young people.
At a time when there is more environmental disconnect than ever, Wollangarra's aim to make small but vital steps to a healthier environment, stronger communities, and happier young people has never been more important. Our programs, accessible to all young people, offer the opportunity to get amongst the mountains, to live simply, and to see environmental issues as exciting and demanding challenges to the way we live, rather than as depressing and negative threats to our future.
Wollangarra runs approximately thirty programs throughout the year, as well as several working bees and community events. When young people come on the property there are no timetables, bells, watches, or mobile phones. The living is simple and young people discover Victoria's mountains in small, well-supervised hiking groups. They are then given the opportunity to return on follow-up programs and become involved in a vibrant community and with our ongoing conservation programs.
By continuing to offer low cost and sponsored opportunities to diverse groups of young people to hike simply in the mountains, we hope to foster care of our environment and excitement of how to protect it. We also hope to provide a safe, empowering space where young people can work with purpose, challenge themselves, and build their social and emotional skills amongst peers. All of these are important aspects for the future, as they are our future leaders.
