We have chosen to keep this fund raiser open for longer and ride Adelaide to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road late November/early December 2025. 
Sam and I will be riding this adventure together and hoping to raise more funds for our charities.

I have decided to finally undertake a bucket list dream to ride from Darwin to Cairns beginning at the end of July 2025 and taking several weeks.
I will be flying from Hobart to Darwin and bikepacking solo the entire way and hoping to include Kakadu in my itinerary. 

I have no sponsors and am therefore funding this expedition myself but have chosen to raise funds for some charities that are very important to myself and my immediate and extended family, including my own children and husband.

Beyond Blue. For more than 20 years, people in Australia have placed their trust in Beyond Blue as a reliable source of mental health information, support, and hope. 

Working It Out (WIO) is Tasmania's sexuality, gender and intersex support, education and advocacy service. Working It Out provides support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer and asexual Tasmanians as well as education and capacity building for schools, workplaces, government and non-government organisations.

Bully Zero is Australia's leading organisation delivering face to face programs on cyber safety, bullying prevention, wellbeing and resilience. Developed with experts - teachers, counsellors, social workers, psychologists, people with lived experience, and neuroscientists - our programs empower schools, community groups, sporting clubs and workplaces nationwide.

Dolly's Dream is committed to changing the culture of bullying by addressing the impact of bullying, anxiety, depression and youth suicide, through education and direct support to young people and families.

These are the four charities I've chosen and I trust people will see the value in supporting my ride, which will total approximately 2500 k's, and also donating to these wonderful causes.

Hi my names Kira. A few years ago I was working in my corporate job and burnt out. I knew something was wrong with me when I was home from work and I couldn’t take in what I was watching on television properly. I couldn’t see or think properly. My head was in a loop and i attempted to take my life as I thought something permanently was wrong with me. I was soon diagnosed with psychosis and have since been receiving ECT treatment (electrotherapy to the brain) which with each treatment I get I get some short term memory loss. I’ve decided to open up about my experience and help raise money towards research into psychosis treatment, mental health, and suicide prevention. I aim to get to a half marathon this year and full marathon next year.

Lift The Weight is a fundraising event to support people who are struggling the way I once did and anyone dealing with mental health challenges.
For the next three weeks, I will be offering $20 personal training sessions, and 100 percent of the donations will go straight to Beyond Blue.

Four years ago, around this time of year, my mental health hit the lowest point of my life.
I felt completely lost and disconnected from who I was. I was drinking too much, hurting myself and making choices that kept pushing me further down. I did not care about my future because I honestly did not think I had one. There were days where I hoped I would not wake up the next morning because I just did not want to keep going.

A few months later, the gym became the thing that kept me stable. I had been training before, but something shifted. Lifting became the routine that actually pulled me out of bed. It gave me structure and something to hold onto when everything else felt overwhelming. It reminded me that progress is possible if you keep showing up. It did not fix everything, but it gave me the first step I needed.

During this time, I also almost lost my best friend to depression, and I have lost people close to me because of their mental health. I have watched mates go down dark paths because they were too embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help. I know what it looks like when someone is struggling quietly and pretending they are fine.

Since then, getting help, meeting supportive people, finding healthier hobbies and building my PT business have completely changed my life. These experiences are why I have so much compassion for anyone dealing with mental illness, and why I want to support an organisation that helps people who feel the way I once did.
