This June, the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia Launches Community Appeal to Sustain and Grow a Vital Educational Centre and Cultural Hub
This June, the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia (LJLA) will launch a major community appeal to ensure the ongoing sustainability and growth of one of the Jewish community’s most vital cultural and educational resources.
Home to more than 35,000 books in English, Hebrew and Yiddish, along with a unique collection of historical artifacts, LJLA is more than just a library—it is a living centre of community life. Each week, up to 300 people walk through its doors to read, research, study, and participate in programs that connect people of all ages and backgrounds.
From author talks and academic lectures to children’s activities, book clubs, wellbeing and cultural workshops, LJLA offers a rich calendar of events that foster dialogue, learning and connection. The library welcomes and engages Jewish and non-Jewish communities through inclusive and thoughtful programming.
“This library is a rare and essential space,” said Dr Merav Carmeli, the Library’s Director. “It preserves memory, inspires discovery, and brings people together. But as a not-for-profit organisation, we rely solely on donations and grants to keep our doors open and our programs running.”
The community appeal seeks to raise funds to support library operations, expand its programs, care for its collection, and improve access for future generations. All contributions will help LJLA continue to serve the community as a trusted place for Jewish learning, culture, and connection.
