The J. Waks Cultural Centre Inc. is named after Jacob Waks, who was one of the first leaders of Yiddish Melbourne and one of the first leaders of the Bund in Melbourne.

The J Waks Cultural Centre Inc. was originally established to meet the needs of Yiddish speakers “south of the Yarra” in the days when the Kadimah was situated in Carlton. This fund promotes Yiddish culture and the arts.

Today the J. Waks Cultural Centre Inc. operates from 281 Hawthorn Road Caulfield and presents numerous Yiddish oriented cultural events during the year.

The Centre has a Yiddish Choir under the direction of Tomi Kalinski which performs at many events during the year  and undertakes various cultural projects.

The Centre has strongly supported Yiddish Sof Vokh Australia from its inception and is proud to do so.

Donations to the J. Waks Cultural Centre Public Fund are tax deductible and we encourage donations so that we can continue our work in particular with the Yiddish oriented youth of Melbourne especially the SKIF Youth Movement.
