All women deserve to be safe, respected and have access to equal opportunity.
Operating for over 30 years WIRE Women’s Information is Victoria’s only women’s service that provides information referral and support to ALL Victorian Women regardless of the issues they are facing.
Our expertise comes from listening to women and working with women so they can use their strength and resilence to deal with issues such as family violence, homelessness, relationsip breakdown and financila stress.
WIRE knows that women are resilient and are experts of their own situation. We do not tell women what to do. Instead we listen, provide information, support and referral so women are empowered to take the steps they need to for them and their children to reach their full potential.
WIRE is a small organisation but our impact ripples throughout Victoria. With over 90 active volunteers and 14 staff we provide services to women and their children that changes lives.
What women say about WIRE
'WIRE saved my life'
'My life had been a life of long struggle and abuse. WIRE has given me many new experiences, the main one is, that I can be involved with many empowered, strong women who know how to connect with me and we all get along well.'
'…thank you to the lovely lady I spoke to today. I needed some legal advice regarding contested intervention order and she was so helpful. She listened.'
'My sister, after 43 years of being married to a violent man, has finally left him. One of the things that made a big difference to her were her dealings with WIRE. She told me she received a huge amount of help from WIRE.'
'I cannot fully express how helpful and caring you were to me last year. I was in a dreadful place and I felt utterly hopeless, to the point of feeling suicidal. You gave me perspective and hope, without being judgmental or pushy. I was anxious every day, not knowing what kind of violence would ensue in the oncoming hours. Communicating with you gave me the encouragement I needed to take my life back, and within that month I cut ties with my partner completely. It was a long road, but finally I did it.'
'I was this close (indicating about 1cm with finger and thumb) to losing my home and the support I got here was amazing. You guys saved my life. The lawyers had never seen anyone so close to losing their home and be able to keep it. I wouldn’t have managed it without your support.'
'Although I have only attended AMICA four times I thoroughly enjoyed coming here. I was in a very desperate and depressed state and it was the lifeline I needed. A wonderful organisation Anna is great.'
