Operation Stitches is a non-profit community organisation founded by Patrick and Chris Templeton in 1996. The organisation reaches out to help young people from Melbourne’s inner-city public housing estates. These children are often exposed to drugs, violence and crime, making it hard for them to imagine a future free from these destructive forces. It’s this absence of hope that often sees kids turn to crime and drugs in an attempt to solve their problems within this negative community role model that is before their face on a daily basis.
Operation Stitches aims to make a difference in these children’s lives on a daily basis to inspire them to make the right choices that will bring about positive change and reform. We give them hope and belief for a brighter future, teaching them important life skills and community values through mentoring programs, workshops and local community activities.
By reaching out to these young people now we can help them make good choices while they’re still young and open minded to learn and change. We believe it’s easier to build happy and productive young people today than to repair damaged men and women tomorrow. We promote these diverse communities to participate within the framework of shared laws, aspirations and responsibilities of the Australian culture and heritage..
Operation Stitches also reaches out to support disadvantaged parents who are often dealing with challenges of their own. Their children are often deprived of emotional support, love and basic parental care because of these personal struggles. Our aim is to help these parents face their future with hope and purpose for themselves and their children.
Operation Stitches is only made possible thanks to the tireless effort of many volunteers and generous donations.
Donations made to Operation Stitches are 100% tax deductible.
