Established in 1986, Headway ABI Australia (formerly Headway Gold Coast Inc.) is a charity and not for profit community based organisation offering a range of services and supports to people with an Acquired Brain Injury or neurological condition and their carer’s, family and friends. Headway offers flexible and individual support to people aged all ages between Brisbane and Coolangatta.
We provide specialist services and supports to many individuals living with an ABI or disability including high and complex care needs. We provide 24/7 supported accommodation in modern share houses across the Gold Coast as well as transitional accommodation for clients transitioning from hospital back into the community.
We deliver an Activity program for clients (Mon – Thurs) promoting community inclusion, social engagement and learning in a group setting. Our Activity Program offers participants choice and accessibility to community activities and group training on weekdays. We facilitate fun, learning and experience in: IT, smart phones, photography, good health and wellbeing, mindfulness, vocational training, work placements, volunteering and job placement.
Our Lifestyle support service delivers flexible and individualised community access support and domestic services to individuals living in the community. Experienced and trained support workers work with individuals to achieve their goals and personal needs focused on maintaining an inclusive and healthy lifestyle, happy home and successful relationships.
Innovation was the key to opening our ‘WINGS’ Wellbeing Centre in 2017 which included the ‘ICare’ elliptical equipment to enable people with no or limited physical function to ‘stand tall and walk’ in a rehabilitative clinical setting to improve function, ability and wellbeing. The ‘WINGS’ centre, ICare and Jintronix equipment are available to all Headway ABI members and service users.
Headway ABI recognises the needs and challenges people can experience after sustaining an ABI or neurological condition. Our purpose is to support, empower and improve the lives of people in need of our specialist services.
