About

This year there are three teams taking part in the Rottnest Channel Swim to support Warrick Proudlove through the Proudies Foundation.

Playing for Claremont Football Club alongside Warrick; Coleman Cristenelli, Patrick Jannings, George Cunningham and Jordan Aitken are swimming in a team of four.

Another team of four; Adelaide Garland, Madeline Quinn, Jamie Davidson and Perri Thompson are also swimming for the Proudies Foundation.

Previously taking part in the Rottnest Channel Swim as a member of a team and as a duo for the past two years, Harry Garland has decided to take on the challenge of completing a solo crossing in 2015.

Harry has always had a passion for sport, particularly swimming and football. Playing for Claremont Football Club when he was 18, Harry met Warrick Proudlove, a boy with an equal passion for the game, dedication, incredible talent, and kind nature.

The struggles that Warrick and his family have faced since he was in a tragic accident in 2011, leaving him with serious neurological damage, have inspired Harry to complete the grueling challenge of the 20 kilometer open water swim to raise money for the continued care and treatment of Warrick.

Warrick can’t talk or communicate, but from time to time he shows that he recognises voices by blinking or pressing his buzzer. He has good and bad days but his family says that he has a long way to go – and that long way is the rest of his life.

Warrick’s family face huge costs for rehabilitation, treatment and to provide him with better facilities. They are doing everything they can to give Warrick the best chance possible at a good recovery.

Harry hopes that in the same way Warrick’s strength has inspired him, his dedication and commitment to the mental and physical challenge of a solo crossing will inspire others to show their support of the Proudies Foundation.

Warrick was a 19yo talented footballer when he was seriously injured in a car accident in July 2011 that left him in a vegetative state and unable to communicate. The Proudies Foundation Inc was established to assist him financially in his difficult and ongoing rehabilitation.
