After riding from Uluru to Ballarat (2300km) in 14 days last September, we were able to raise close to $40,000 and more importantly people were talking about dementia. This created much needed awareness and knowledge for young onset dementia and dementia.
This year myself and two great mates, Jamie Huggett on-board once again and newcomer Jeremy Cowan will be riding the Mawson trail, 1,000km in 6 days, once again physically and mentally testing ourselves, but that’s what is so crucial and important. This is what individuals suffering with dementia face every day so we think it's important that we are tested the same way during our journey..
The money raise will go towards This is Dementia, my new non for profit organisation that focuses on raising awareness, increasing knowledge and social connectivity. This will be through periodic lunches, movie sessions, pilates classes and other everyday activities to keep individuals with dementia and their carers active and engaged within the community. Part of the money will once again also go towards Eyres House, a respite facility for young onset dementia patients, helping to develop a longer-term plan to create a state-of-the-art facility with gold standard dementia care.
