About
This year, Rob Abrahams will be running the 'half marathon' (21km) event in the HBF Run For A Reason, in late May. His reason for participating in this run is to promote the charity Around The Campfire - an organisation dedicated to promoting health education and health care systems amongst the Indigenous Australian population. The life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is approximately 14 years, and for this to change for the better, nurses and health care professionals must be afforded with the opportunity to work in remote Indigenous communities. Further, the support of Indigenous participation in healthy lifestyle activities such through sport and recreation will work to close this gap. Any monetary donation to this cause will go a long way to facilitating nursing programs working with Indigenous communities as well as health education being brought to the local Indigenous people.
Around the Campfire programs have been established to help improve Indigenous health in Australia. Indigenous health in many areas is equivalent to that of 3rd world standards. Our mission is to reduce the life expectancy gap by reducing chronic disease and illness in Indigenous children.
