Shane Johnstone and James Roberts two Exercise Physiologists and running enthusiasts from Perth are committing to Australia's Mt Everest of running. In April 2018 they will head to Albany, Great South Western Australia where they will start to run the 1,004km Bibbulmun Trail to Kalamunda, aiming for the Fastest Known Time (FKT). The current record stands at 15 days, 9 hours and 48 minutes. The challenge has already begun, with Shane and James doing regular long training runs and working on their strategies to improve their odds to make it to the end (and within their goal time). Preparation is essential if they are going to quench that thirst for success. To achieve this goal their poor bodies will be put to the ultimate endurance test. They will climb the equivalent of two Mount Everest’s and if all goes to plan increase their weekly run distance volume from training at 100-200km/week to 500km+/week in the event. As a rule Exercise Physiologists typically say don’t increase your running volume by more than 10% per week if you don’t want to increase your risk of getting injured. The reality is they know it will be painful, VERY painful, they will obtain injuries, get bitten by tics, pestered by all kind of flies, have encounters with snakes, battle the heat, dehydration and sun exposure and they will often be asking why are we doing this ??? Hopefully all this self inflicted pain will motivate the community to dig deep and donate to Be Inspired Foundation. Unfortunately some children are significantly more disadvantaged than others and unable to gain access to support that they really need. Be Inspired Foundation allocates Treatment Plan awards to beneficiaries so they can get professional support for Exercise, Diet and Counselling. Each treatment plan is to the value of $2,000 which is approximately 35 sessions for the beneficiary which is a HUGE OPPORTUNITY for them to build lifelong independence and who knows, they might be runners themselves one day ????

Thanks everyone for your HUGE support ! The Bibbulmun 1000 campaign has been a HUGE success ! The Team was able to break the overall record for Bibbulmun Track by 4 days 1005km Track with over 20,000m of elevation in 11 days 7 hours and 8 minutes The generous donations, kind messages and overall support was very motivating and gave us no option but to get the Mission done! Unfortunately James 5 days and 450km into the challenge at Pemberton had to withdraw due to an infection which had resulted in leg swelling that we later found out was actually a dry snake bite that led to infection. Shane received HUGE support from the community and it was great to have pacers join him to keep him moving owards that end goal Raising over 16,000 is HUGE This means a lot to Be Inspired Foundation and even more to the disadvantaged youth that will benefit from the funding We get to see the outcomes first hand and can reassure you giving opportunity to these young champs is life changing On Friday the 25th of May 6:30pm at Kalamunda Hotel we will be celebrating the success and chatting about the challenges we faced along the way. There will be a door prize for ticket holders, raffle and silent auction at the event. Please join us ???? https://www.facebook.com/events/155609395132886/?ti=icl
