The Ballarat Base Hospital Emergency Department attends to approximately 800 children every month presenting with both acute and chronic illnesses. Of these, 200 children are transferred to the Children's Ward for single day procedures, extended stays or repeat admissions.
The health care team at the Ballarat Base Hospital believes strongly in providing family-centred, individualised and culturally sensitive care in a manner that respects children's rights. The current redevelopment of the Children's Ward seeks to provide a modern space that will improve the quality of care provided to paediatric patients.
This redevelopment is predicted to be finished by late 2017, however only $2,500,000 of the required $3,500,000 have been raised. Some aims of the project include: - Creating a safe, comfortable and welcoming space for the children. - Providing large spaces to allow the staff to comfortably care for, treat and stabilise the children. - Spaces to allow for parents to stay overnight comfortably. - Communal play areas. - Improved workspace for staff to provide better quality patient confidentiality. - Isolation rooms for contagious diseases.
To assist in raising the required funds, I will be running around Lake Wendouree in Ballarat for 24h on Oct the 22nd from 7:30am. In addition, I will be taking part in Run Ballarat's 12km event at 8:30am on Oct the 23rd. I am seeking either lump sum or per kilometre/per lap donations to raise necessary funds for the redevelopment of the Children’s Ward. My aim is to run approximately 200km (1 Lap = 6km).
Run Ballarat supports the Ballarat Base Hospital Children's Ward by contributing money raised from the event for the redevelopment of the Ballarat Base Hospital Children's Ward.
