In January 2016, I will walk 850km across India following the Kaveri River. I'm doing this to smash down the barriers and stigmas that surround mental health and to help you break free of your comfort zone.
All funds raised will go directly to supporting beyondblue.
Follow at www.walkingthewalk.com.au.
The walk starts on the West Coast in Kanhangad and I will then head up into the mountains in Karnataka to the source; from here I will follow the flow of the Kaveri River through the plains of Tamil Nadu and across the southern Deccan plateau to finally finish at the Bay of Bengal.
As much of a physical challenge it will be a cultural experience. I will stop at small villages along the way to get amongst the Indian culture to provide a unique perspective on how they live their lives and what lessons can be learnt to help put our own into perspective.
So why support beyondblue?
For periods of my life, I’ve struggled with these feelings of anxiety, where I questioned my own purpose of life. I had lost all momentum. I was stuck in this sleep walking routine of mediocrity. And I couldn’t explain why I had these feelings.
Walking the Walk will showcase the benefits of travel to push yourself to get outside of your comfort zone to learn more about yourself. There is something powerful about escaping an enabling environment, being thrown into another world and being left to fend for yourself. We are all capable of doing great things and all it takes in one small step to create create change.
Walking the Walk intends to provide people the platform:
- to provide a voice - to embrace their individuality - to get out of their comfort zone - to be adventurous - to harness the power of travel - to dare to dream
Beyond Blue is here for everyone in Australia – especially during this challenging time. We’re dedicated to supporting the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by anxiety, depression and suicide

Super proud and stoked with what you've achieved mate! And also how much good your adventure seems to have done, both for raising awareness about such an important issue, as well as for your own well being. Keep up the good work and hopefully I'll be able to join you on one of your next ones! xx

Tom! This'll come out of the blue - we're the Poms who you met in the German Bakery in Rishkesh and you gave us several things which changed the course of our trip - so we had to thank you - and what better way! First you gave us the world cup idea - we went to Mumbai for W'Indes vs England, which was epic; second you gave us the secret beach in Mirissa - it was everything we'd built it up to be; and lastly those bang nibbles - made our last days navigating Rishikesh that bit more entertaining! So huge thanks and good luck. Ed and Liv
