Motor Neurone Queensland

My personal nightmare started, unbeknown to me, early March. Unfortunately, my dad Peter Turner was one unlucky bugger who has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone. Approximately 1400 people in Australia are living with this disease living for an extra 4-5 years even less depending how fast it has spread. In simple terms the disease is a fast acting wasting condition. The motor neurones are the nerve cells along the brain which sends instructions to the muscles. When they pack up, so do you. The muscles that are needed to move around- speak, swallow and breathe, fail to work normally. I've purely made this campaign to not only support my father but everyone else who deals with this evil disease.

My dad Peter is 53 year old man with a young family. And two grand children. My dad was out somewhere when he first got the tingling sensation. Following all that he was referred by a family members physiotherapist which then led us to a specialist where he was to do a grip test which showed muscle wastage. But there was still no suggestion at that point of a serious illness. After that he was sent for tests to rule out a blocked nerve. The scans and nerve conduction tests couldn’t find any nerve block. But they gave strange abnormal readings nevertheless – and these abnormal readings were replicated when the tests were done on other parts of his body. The operator seemed to know what was wrong with him and that was when MND was first suggested. My first hearing of this diagnoses broke my heart and I couldn't fathom life. Losing my best friend/ companion and father at such a young age. But I still believe in miracles and have faith as he is a strong man.
