Riannon's Run

I am running in the 12km event Run Wollongong http://www.runwollongong.com.au/ and I am dedicating this run to raise money for my niece Riannon who needs much needed funds for her constant ongoing care. For those of you who don't know Riannon let me share her story.

Two years ago Riannon who has type 1 diabetes got seriously ill with a diabetic condition called Diabetic Ketoacidosis which is a serious condition associated with illness or very high blood glucose levels in type 1 diabetes. It develops gradually over hours or days. It is a sign of insufficient insulin. Without enough insulin, the body’s cells cannot use glucose for energy. To make up for this, the body begins to burn fat for energy instead. This leads to accumulation of dangerous chemical substances in the blood called ketones

Riannon also suffered 3 mini strokes while in an induced coma to treat her Ketoacidocious this sadly has left her with ABI, Aquired Brain Injury.

Riannon needs constant care and resides in a Nursing home, she has regular home visits to her Mum's house, who is my sister Marie. Riannon is 22 years old and has a young son Zac who is 3 years old.

With your help I am hoping to raise much needed funds to help with Riannon's ongoing care.
