The Keep K’gari Clean project is a community-driven project dedicated to protecting the pristine beaches of K’gari from the growing threat of marine debris. Every tide brings new plastic pollution to the island, harming wildlife, impacting visitors, and threatening this World Heritage site. Your support will help us take real action, together.

Our Story

K’gari is constantly being polluted by plastic washing ashore, with debris arriving daily from shipping routes, storms, and mainland run-off. We’ve witnessed this worsening over the years, and after leading countless clean-ups ourselves, we know how urgently coordinated action is needed.

The funds raised will be used to initiate and sustain a community-led beach clean-up program on K’gari for two years. This includes equipment, transport, volunteer coordination, waste removal, and ongoing data collection to help drive a longer-term solution.

We’ve self-funded this project for as long as we can, and without grant support, we are turning to our community. Your contribution will help us show the value of this work and help create lasting positive impact for K’gari.

HOW TO SUPPORT

VOLUNTEER AND FUNDRAISE...

We’re inviting 48 volunteers to walk the beaches of K’gari with the Drop Bear founders for 3-day stints of collecting, weighing and sorting every piece of debris. All food, accommodation and transport from Rainbow Beach is being donated by the Drop Bear naturally. This is a rare chance to care for our country and contribute to something bigger than all of us. It's also a heck of a lot of fun, and it makes you feel soooo good about yourself! 😅
